Pacific Pie Co. Celebrates National Pie Day with Annual Contest

Pacific Pie Co. is inviting all Portland pie lovers to show off their mad baking skills in honor of National Pie Day.  The bakery café is calling for entries for its Second Annual Pie Contest, naming one amateur and one professional baker the 2013 PDX Pie Champion.

When:  Sunday, January 20, 2013, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.
Where:  Pacific Pie Co., 1520 SE 7^th Ave., Portland
Categories:  Professional and amateur divisions for both sweet pies and savory pies
Rules for entry:  Register in advance by emailing info@pacificpieco.com or no later than 1:00 p.m. on the day of the Bake-Off.  There is no registration fee and multiple entries per person are accepted.  All entries must be fully baked, ready to eat, and accompanied by a recipe.
Judging:  A panel of prestigious, self-proclaimed pie aficionados have been assembled to taste all the entries and select winners in each category.  Winning bakers get bragging rights and their pies featured on the restaurant’s menu in February.

Judges:

• Kate Withiam – pastry chef, Pacific Pie Co.
• Byron Beck – radio host, KXL-FM “Beck and Burns”
• Mike Thelin – co-founder, FEAST Portland
• Chad Draizin – owner, Fifty Licks ice cream cart
• Alissa Rozos, pastry chef at Restaurant St. Jack
• Thea Dieter (10 years old) – Pacific Pie Co.’s #1 customer and aspiring pastry chef

After the judges sample the pies, the general public will get to taste the pies and cast their vote for the “People’s Choice” award.  All are invited to come and enjoy the festivities, or come by Pacific Pie Co. on Wednesday, January 23^rd, the official National Pie Day, for a slice of sweet pie for $3 each (normally $4) or taste of one of the many classic or creative pie flavors on the menu that entire week.
