Open Mondays and New Menu at Kenny & Zuke’s

Posted: Mar 22nd, 08

I just wanted to write you a quick email to let you know about a couple changes at Kenny & Zuke’s.  First of all, we’re going to be opening on Mondays starting March 31st.  This is probably the top request we get and every time I’m here on a Monday there are people who come to the door shocked and dismayed to find out we’re closed.  (I like to tease them by slowly devouring slabs of pastrami in the window.)  Whenever I eat out, too, I always get asked by other industry folks if we’re open on Mondays, which is why we’re going to have a 10% discount for them Mondays during dinner.

Secondly, we’ve changed the menu.  The biggest change is that our most popular weekly dinner specials — my Grandma’s goulash, the stuffed cabbage, and, of course, the fried chicken — are now available every day along with our other dinner entrees (steak, pot roast, meat loaf, etc).  The goulash and the stuffed cabbage are a bit cheaper now, too.

Other changes to the menu include:

* Three reubens: a classic reuben with pastrami or corned beef; a rachel (aka, Georgia reuben) with turkey and cole slaw; and a veggie reuben, which changes day to day, but usually has sauteed zucchini or tomatoes with mushrooms and caramelized onions, cheese, Russian, and sauerkraut

* A house-made chicken pot pie available during dinner

* A tuna melt, served open faced with tomato and dripping aged cheddar

* Several more breakfast items available all day

* And my personal favorite: pastrami cheese fries

We’ve steadily been expanding the dessert selections.  There’s regularly a carrot cake, almond cake, chocolate-cinnamon babka, chocolate pudding, rice pudding, and hamantashen along with our usual offerings, such as the cheesecake (best I’ve ever had, kudos to Tim Healea), the rugelach (kudos to me…ehem), the brownies, lemon bars, and pecan bars (kudos to Ken, but don’t let it go to his head), and the floats, which people can get with any of our over 60 bottled sodas.  (I love seeing a neon pink float made with Boylan Black Cherry or Strawberry Crush.  It looks like a bubbling concoction in a Boris Karloff flick.)

Lastly (yeah, I know, not such a quick email), we still have customers come in who are surprised we have a happy hour.  We never make any of the best happy hour lists, but we’re one of the few where you can truly get your fill on the cheap.  And not only do you have options like 6oz $6 burgers and reuben sliders, but you can get $2.50 pints of beer, too.  (We have 4 taps, Walkingman IPA, Walkingman Barefoot Brown, Double Mountain Pale Ale, and Anchor Steam along with about 30 bottled craft brews from around the U.S.) And the happy hour runs twice a day, 4-6pm and 10 til midnight.

So I hope you’ll come in and try out the changes, then get the word out.

We’re pretty proud of what we’re trying to do.

Thanks.
