Culinate Newsletter: Shrubs, Lemon Buttermilk Milkshake, guacamole

Dear readers,

Like legions of Julia fans everywhere today I’m noting the 100th anniversary of the birth of America’s beloved Julia Child. Whether she was teaching us to cook — with more forgiveness than many teachers — or simply showing us by example how to be gracious, funny, and lead a good life, Julia was an inspiration. I particularly enjoyed this quote in Grant Butler’s recent round up of memorable Julia quotes, published in The Oregonian:

“This is my invariable advice to people: Learn how to cook — try new recipes, learn from your mistakes, be fearless, and above all have fun!”

Right on.
