<p>PORTLAND, Oregon (July 13, 2010) –Dim Sum Yum Yum at Pix Pâtisserie only rolls around once every few months so be ready to nab a seat before the next tray of roaming desserts passes you by. Get those chopsticks ready to taste a variety of mini desserts priced from $1.50 to $3. And don’t forget the beverage pairings with two-ounce Belgian beer tastes for $2 and one ounce dessert wines for $3. The next Dim Sum Yum Yum takes place on <strong>Monday, August 9 from 8 to 11 p.m. at 3402 SE Division</strong>. Some sweet treats will include tropical mini Tiki Tiki’s, a very cute Tart Ménage á Trois and always a few surprises only available for that evening. <p><strong>About Cheryl Wakerhauser</strong></p>
<p>Pastry chef and restaurateur Cheryl Wakerhauser (a.k.a. Pix)<strong>, </strong>is known for her eccentric and distinctive style that intertwines an array of flavors and textures in every dessert creation. After a short-lived career studying to be an astronaut, Cheryl trained at the pâtisserie of MOF chef Philippe Urraca in Southern France. In 2001 she moved to Portland and set up shop at the Portland Farmers Market. The next year, the first Pix Pâtisserie opened its doors on SE Division, bringing European flare and edible art to Portland with an assortment of elegant pastries and handmade chocolates. To complement each delectable masterpiece, Pix Pâtisserie serves a wide variety of dessert wines, sparkling wine, craft beers, and fine spirits.</p>
<p>Cheryl opened her second location in North Portland in 2005, along with an in-house chocolate laboratory with small windows for customers to peek at the pastries, macarons and chocolates being crafted on site.  A graduate of the University of Minnesota in Food Science and Business Management, Cheryl was introduced to fresh, flavorful food during her travels to the Philippines and Thailand. After graduation she attended culinary school in Canada and studied in France. When she has time, she still loves to travel and tries to spend one month a year in France seeking inspiration for her next dessert creation or new macaron flavor.</p>

<p>PORTLAND, Oregon (June 28, 2010) –  Summertime sizzle calls for ice cream and Pix Pâtisserie delivers with the 7<sup>th</sup> annual Ice Cream Social on Sat. July 24<sup>th</sup> from 10 a.m. to midnight at the SE Division St. location only.  For one day, Pix’s dessert shelves will be transformed into ice cream showcases. All the crème brûlée, tart citrons and chocolate mousse cakes will be replaced with more than 20 different frozen delights including the classics (splits, sundaes and sodas) and nostalgic novelties (Pix Push Up pops and ice cream sandwiches). For the adventurous ice cream enthusiast, sample a Cognac Banana Shake or the Habanero Nut Crunch ice cream – with the spice. The over-the-top Foghorn elicits squeals of joy with 22 scoops of ice cream served in half a watermelon with all the bells and whistles.</p>
<p>&#8220;I love to take old school concepts and reinvent them,” says Cheryl Wakerhauser, owner and pastry chef. “At Pix we take the idea of the Ice Cream Social to the next level.” For those looking for flavors more exciting than chocolate and vanilla there is a cone of Tawny Port Ice Cream or Pina Colada Sorbet. The Push Up Pops are filled with house-made Blood Orange Sherbet and there might be Malibu Rum in the Mango Shake. And nothing that goes on the banana split comes from a can or jar. “We make our own hot fudge and &#8216;Just say NO!&#8217; to maraschino cherries,” adds Wakerhauser.</p>

<p>Sorry we&#8217;ve been out of touch these past few months.  With market season in full swing, the   kitchen has been a veritable blur of activity, most of which has been centered around fresh strawberries.  As you can imagine, this very wet spring has been a drag for most farmers, and berry farmers are no exception.  Here we are in the middle of June, and only this week have we seen really ripe, flavorful strawberries.  Our gratitude goes   out to Marven and Chris Winters for braving the muck and slugs to bring us our berry fix.</p>
<p><strong>Strawberry Basil   Macarons</strong></p>
<p>Basil Macarons were a   surprise hit at the bakery last summer.  This year we have two versions   &#8211; one filled with fresh basil buttercream, for the purists, and one filled   with fresh strawberry buttercream.</p>
<p><strong>Hubba   Hubbas and Neapolitans</strong></p>
<p>Simple   ingredients often make the most memorable cookies. The pure strawberry flavor   of our fresh buttercream makes its way into two simple shortbread   rounds.  The Hubba Hubbas are make with two vanilla bean shortbread   pieces filled with strawberry buttercream, and the neapolitans (pictured in   the opening salvo) are comprised of one round of cocoa shortbread, one   vanilla, and strawberry buttercream.  Ridiculously nostalgic, these   mimic the colors and flavors of ice cream bearing the same name.</p>
<p><strong>Fresh   Strawberry Ice Cream</strong></p>
<p>Hmmm&#8230;   what&#8217;s that bright white stuff in the sky?  Ouch!  It&#8217;s kinds   hurting my eyes!  Oh, that&#8217;s right, in three more days, it will be   summer, and we should be experiencing a few more days like today. So   strawberry cream is of course a part of the berry menu at Two Tarts!</p>

<p>PORTLAND, Oregon (June 11, 2010) – Pix Pâtisserie owner Cheryl Wakerhauser loves to throw parties and Bastille Day is the perfect reason to unleash her creativity and whimsical spirit. For the 4<sup>th</sup> year, Cheryl will hold a block party in front of her N. Williams location with activities from a mini Médoc Fun Run with wines along the route to a Champagne and Oyster Bar, Carlton Farms roasted pig, Lompoc beer garden, live music from local bands Nice Nice and Dirty Mittens, and of course a giant Bastille Tower of cream puffs for guests to “storm.” Bastille Day kicks off at 11 a.m. on July 17, 2010 and the party continues until midnight. The day’s events are free but guests should bring two or more non-perishable food items to donate to Oregon Food Bank. For each item donated, guests will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of 100 gift certificates to Portland’s best restaurants. The more donated food items, the more chances to win! You can’t beat a summer night, confetti-filled street dance party like this!”</p>

<p><strong>Mini Médoc Marathon Fun Run 5K</strong></p>
<p>The Médoc Marathon is a 26.2 mile race that winds through over 50 chateaux in the famous wine region of Bordeaux. Water is acceptable, but there are also 22 “degustation” sites where participants are encouraged to partake in local wine tastings of Grand Cru vineyards. Pix will hold a Mini Médoc Marathon! During this 5K course through N/NE Portland, runners will have the opportunity to sample delicious wines. Unlike the Médoc Marathon, the winner will not receive their weight in wine at the finish. However, prizes will be marked on the bottom of random glasses at the tasting stops. And like the Médoc marathon, dressing in costume is a must! Best costume wins a $100 Pix Gift Certificate.</p>

<p>PORTLAND, Oregon (May 26, 2010) –   Pick your favorite movie choice, pair it with a glass of bubbly and check out the dessert options at Pix Pâtisserie’s Movie Madness event held every Monday at the North Williams location of Pix. Movies change weekly and are free starting at 8:30 p.m. Bring a friend, a group or your kids and indulge in a flight of macarons, sparkling wines or a star studded dessert like the Amélie, the Carmen Miranda or the Queen of Sheba Truffle Cake.</p>
<p><strong>Movie and Beer…or Wine…or Champagne!</strong></p>
<p>At Pix, there are more than 35 sparkling wine selections, including 20 picks of grower/producer champagnes available by the glass, ½ bottle and full bottle. From special Club Champagne to affordable quality Cava’s, Pix also serves a variety of espresso drinks, dessert wines, craft beers and fine spirits.</p>

<p><strong>About Cheryl Wakerhauser</strong></p>
<p>Pastry chef and restaurateur Cheryl Wakerhauser (a.k.a. Pix)<strong>, </strong>is known for her eccentric and distinctive style that intertwines an array of flavors and textures in every dessert creation. After a short-lived career studying to be an astronaut, Cheryl trained at the pâtisserie of MOF chef Philippe Urraca in Southern France. In 2001 she moved to Portland and set up shop at the Portland Farmers Market. The next year, the first Pix Pâtisserie opened its doors on SE Division, bringing European flare and edible art to Portland with an assortment of elegant pastries and handmade chocolates. To complement each delectable masterpiece, Pix Pâtisserie serves a wide variety of dessert wines, sparkling wine, craft beers, and fine spirits.</p>
<p>Cheryl opened her second location in North Portland in 2005, along with an in-house chocolate laboratory with small windows for customers to peek at the pastries, macarons and chocolates being crafted on site.  A graduate of the University of Minnesota in Food Science and Business Management, Cheryl was introduced to fresh, flavorful food during her travels to the Philippines and Thailand. After graduation she attended culinary school in Canada and studied in France. When she has time, she still loves to travel and tries to spend one month a year in France seeking inspiration for her next dessert creation or new macaron flavor.</p>

<p><strong>PORTLAND, Oregon </strong>(December 29, 2009)<strong> </strong>— A traditional French holiday, the Epiphany, falls on January 6<sup>th</sup> when the three kings arrived to honor the newborn Christ child. Today, French families still gather around the table together to enjoy a special cake: <em>la Galette des Rois</em>, or the Kings’ Cake. More popular as a tradition for good luck in the coming year, the Galette des Rois at St. Honoré Boulangerie arrives with a lucky charm made of porcelain and a golden paper crown. The Galette comes in many different designs, but at St. Honoré the design is the traditional sunflower shape to symbolize vitality. The Galette is made with puff pastry filled with frangipane, a blend of almond and custard cream and is available by special order through the end of January. One size serves 10-12 people and is $42.
