Sherry Wine Class – Register Now!
Sherry. Just what is it? A town? A region? A wine? A grape? That sweet swill your old aunt Nellie drank at 4:00 in the afternoon? That stuff you cook with because the cookbook says you must? Or, one of the world’s most varied and ancient wine styles, as made by a handful of master practitioners in the South of Spain, in the region once ruled by the Moors, and still today redolent with the spice, and exotic customs of Arabia – Andalusia?
Brian Patterson, Sherry expert and importer of one of the world’s oldest and most storied Sherry houses, will answer these questions and many more as he guides you through a tasting and seminar designed to enlighten you to the variety that Sherry offers, the versatility of its flavors at the dinner table, and the history of its multi-layered components and how it is created.
Gonzalez-Byass, family owned for 177 years and now in its 7th generation of family ownership, is one of the undisputed kings of this mysterious and alluring wine category. At this class, you will taste through a wide range of the family’s most treasured Sherry wines, and while doing so, learn the difference between a Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso, Palo Cortado and Pedre Ximenez – all types of Sherry, but all tremendously different in terms of flavor (sweet to dry) and application. You will sample 8 different sherries and enjoy light snacks for pairing purposes.
Please join us as we explore one of the world’s oldest and most misunderstood wine regions and wine styles. After learning about these wines, and sampling their multi-faceted flavors, you too will see what the world has been raving about for hundreds of years and will count yourself among Sherry enthusiasts!
Class size is limited to 35 people.
Must be 21 to participate.
Tuition fee = $35 per person
Please reply to this email or call 503.331.7119 to register.

CLUBHOUSE ROCK

The EDW Monthly Wine Club is recruiting. The idea is simple, the logistics are easy, and the wines are affordable and accessible. Two bottles, once a month, with total cost between $25-$35, never to exceed $35. You may specify “Only Reds” if you like; otherwise, there will be occasional bubbles, whites and roses in the mix, especially during summer months and appropriate holidays. One of the two bottles will always be a red.

How it works:

- Reply to this email to join. Credit card information will NOT be collected. We’re using the “promise to pick up” system. Weird, huh?

- Trust your EDW merchant to choose only fun and interesting wines — that are great values — by the 15th of every month.

- I will email the selections to you each month, informing you that the club wines are ready to be picked up.

- Pick up your club wines by the 30th of the month.
I will only select wines for the club that I would be willing to take home myself. I want to keep things affordable, and show you wines that exceed expectation based on the price. Some obscure, some crowd pleasers. Some party wines, some food wines. All reliable. This will be a lot of fun for all of us. Who knows, you may fall in love with a grape or region you’d never considered. All part of the joy of discovering wine… I’m looking forward to introducing you to my real “go to” wines.
As always, I really do appreciate your loyalty and support. I am one lucky local entrepreneur.

- Beth
