Well it sure is nice to wake up this morning and get the feeling that Spring may finally be here.  I know you are all expecting Summer by now, but I’ll take what we can get.

Two fun tastings this week, plus a new twist on our email wine finds:

TONIGHT we have our Blindside Tasting series once again and it promises to be the best yet.  If you’re brave enough to leave your preconceptions at home and stick your nose into a glass of something you have no idea what it is, then you should come join us and share your impressions.  Details about the class are here on our website.  We have a couple seats left if you call us at503.281.2675 to reserve before 4pm.  PLUS it’s Free Corkage at Aviarytonight, so you can go have dinner after the tasting and bring a bottle from the shop with you at no extra charge!

On Friday night, we welcome back to the shop local vintner, Andrew Rich.   Those who know Andrew appreciate his dry wit almost as much as they love his exceptional wines made from a very large variety of grapes grown in Oregon and Washington.  He’s bringing something not normally seen on retail shelves, so don’t miss this.  More details below.

On Saturday, we’re going to try something new.  There will be a Wine Finds email on Saturday morning for those of you on that mailing list, and if you want to try before you buy, all you have to do is come down to the shop between 11am and 4pm and I’ll pour you a taste of these beguiling reds to tempt you into new wine discoveries.

Don’t miss the scandalous news below.  See you soon!

THIS WEEK’S TASTINGS

FRIDAY NIGHT FLIGHT - Andrew Rich Vintner

Politics and wine sure do make strange bedfellows.  I don’t have to remind Oregonians about the Draconian liquor laws we all suffer through here in the post-prohibition era some 78 years after it again became ‘legal’ to drink.  But what if the government decided to take away your right to see or judge the beauty of things with your own eyes?  That’s what they do down in Alabama, apparently, as this extremely racy (yes, that’s sarcasm) label by Andrew Rich has been banned in that Southern state.  So to salute them for allowing more of Andrew Rich’s wines to be available for sale in Oregon, we’re going to be blasting tunes from the band Alabama during the tasting on Friday night. Sweet home, indeed.

Andrew is coming to pour a bunch of his new 2008 reds along with the Croft Sauvignon Blanc and his addictive dessert wine made from Gewurztraminer.  Included in the red lineup is the first Merlot bottling he’s ever made, which has also led to the 2008 Mesalliance now being a Malbec-driven wine.  Both should be worth the trip alone.  But you’ll get humor and wine lore with every pour.  So come down and taste with us.  $10 tasting fee, free for cork club members. Just show up between 4pm and 7pm.  We’ll supply the glassware!

SATURDAY AFTERNOON SPECIAL

Saturday, May 21 · 11am – 4pm · Free

Question Mark

About twice each week, we send out a Wine Findsemail with special offers on new discoveries, killer deals and the occasional obscurity, all in an effort to educate our followers and share a wide variety of wines with you.  But it isn’t always easy to read about a wine and know whether it will appeal to you, and with this week’s selections, I am going a beat more offbeat than normal.  So in the interest of sharing, I’ll pull the cork on a bottle of each of the two reds being featured in Saturday’s Wine Finds email and you can stop in anytime between 11am and 4pm and I’ll share a taste with you, while supplies last.  You’ll even be able to buy on the spot at what is usually our email only prices. The secret wines will be revealed when the Saturday email sends early that morning.

If you want to make sure you are signed up for the Wine Finds email, just scroll to the bottom of this email, click on the Update Profile button, then click the little checkbox next to the Wine Finds subscription option.  All future Wine Finds deals will show up directly in your inbox.
