Daedalus Cellars — WINE news 9.2010

September 7, 2010

“The juice of the grape is the liquid quintessence of concentrated sunbeams.”   ~ Thomas Love Peacock (1785-1866)

UPCOMING EVENTS

We hope you have had the chance to soak up some of the summer’s rays, just like the grapes in the vineyards.  Aron is preparing for a compressed harvest this Fall — just this week he is beginning to see some color change in the vineyard.

We hope you’ll join us for the last of our summer music in the courtyard nights this Saturday from 5 – 8 PM at our Tasting Room – featuring the leader of Pancake Breakfast, Mike Midlo. (details below)

September Cellar Club shipments will be processed next week.  Our ’08 Pinots are racked and ready to bottle, but won’t be released until later this Fall. We tasted them last week and can’t wait to share them with you.  Aron feels they are some of his best wines yet.  To tide you over, we will reward your patience by sending a special library offering our 2005 Nyarady Pinot Noir along with the soon-to-be-released 2009 Gruner Veltliner. The 2005 Nyarady may still be cellared, but it is starting to show it’s stuff and the 2009 Gurner Veltliner has been anxiously awaited since we sold out of the 2008 several months ago.  If we are still holding your summer shipment due to the warm temperatures — I will combine the shipping rate and send both orders out as soon as the weather allows.  Feel free to contact me if you want to make any changes/additions to your shipment:  deanna@daedaluscellars.com or call 503-538-4400.

Our on-line store has been corrected, you may also place orders through our website:  www.daedaluscellars.com

2008 Daedalus PINOT NOIRS — preview by winemaker Aron Hess.
Supply is short but demand is high for the 2008 vintage….

Oh, but for another Autumn like 2008.  That year, as now, we fretted over an unusually cool Summer, but the 2008 vintage concluded with a spectacular Indian Summer.  Ripening under ideally warm days and cold nights, the resulting fruit displayed the greatest balance of flavor, acid and mature tannin I’ve seen in my 13 harvests.

Now ready for release, the wines are loaded with flavor, and with their pitch-perfect acidity, drinking them suggests the juiciness of biting into perfectly ripe cherries or raspberries.  The texture, too, is reminiscent of round, smooth ripe fruit, and supple, firm tannins that will carry these wines gracefully into a long future.

These wines deserve a Debutante Ball, and we intend to throw one.  Please join us… November 20 & 21 for a special pre-Thanksginving weekend “quiet” release for you, our valued Daedalus customers.
