Vincent Family Cranberries Launches juices in Seattle and Portland Markets
August 23, 2010
Oregon’s oldest cranberry farm produces wholesome organic juices and dried berries, now for sale in retail locations across the Northwest.
Small business success story spearheaded by grandson of founder.
PORTLAND, OR – August 22, 2010 –Vincent Family Cranberries is a small, family-run business success story. Since the launch of their Oregon-grown line of cranberry juices and dried cranberries in May of 2010, the business has gone from one stall at the Beaverton Farmers Market to 57 retail locations by the end of August.
Tim Vincent, co-owner, announces today that Vincent Family Cranberries products will debut by August 16, 2010 at Whole Foods stores in Seattle and at all six Seattle-area Metropolitan Markets. The stores will offer samples and tastings to customers as a way of introducing the juices. Currently, the Vincent Cranberry products are available in Oregon at seven Market of Choice stores, most New Seasons Markets, and all Whole Foods Markets. They are also featured in a number of independent stores in the Pacific Northwest. For a listing of most retail locations, visit www.vincentcranberries.com/where-to-buy.
In addition to retail locations, Vincent cranberry juices can be found every Saturday at the Beaverton Farmers Market, at select other local Portland area farmers markets, and on the cocktail menu at June, a highly acclaimed new Portland restaurant, and soon at other select Pacific Northwest restaurants in the coming months.
The 32-ounce sized bottled juices come in Cranberry Agave and Cranberry/Blueberry, and are almost entirely organic. The dried apple infused berries are available in 8-ounce sized bags. Because of the way the juices are blended and flavored, they have fewer calories and less sugar than other national brands which dramatically increases the health benefits people have come to expect from their cranberry juice.
Due to Oregon’s temperate climate that allows for a shorter dormant season and longer growing season, the region boasts some of the most luscious, sweet cranberries. They are deeply red in color and quite large in size compared to other cranberries on the market.
Recently, after 53 years and three generations of farming the land, Tim Vincent, grandson of the farm’s founder, decided to create and launch a juice company in response to the commoditization of the fresh cranberry market. The market price of a cranberry is now lower than it was in the 1980’s, and many small family cranberry farms have simply given up. The launch of a retail brand was essentially a last ditch effort to keep the farm in the family. Its rapid success, in turn, has helped to educate the public about Oregon’s cranberry production potential to the benefit of all independent cranberry farms in the state.
The Vincent Family has been growing cranberries on their farm in Bandon, Oregon since 1957, making the family one of the oldest Cranberry farming families on the West Coast. Tim Vincent’s grandfather was Elmer Robison. He owned three separate plots of Cranberry land a few miles a part in Bandon, Oregon. Tim Vincent’s parents bought one of Robison’s plots in the 1970’s and the family has been working the farm ever since.
“The farm is more than land to us, it is ‘sacred ground’ and nurturing this land is second nature to us. Our small family actually grows the berries, and blends the juices. Since launching in May, we have been overwhelmed by the positive response,” says Tim Vincent, co-owner.
Our customers say:
“I walked away with a bag of dried cranberries and a bottle of the best cranberry juice you’ll ever taste.”
Marilyn DeVault, Owner, Saint Cupcake, Portland, Oregon and sparklefingers blogger
“I found their juice while visiting Portland and brought some back to my fellow dancers here at PNB. We absolutely love it because it tastes like the real thing and is so much healthier than the other Cranberry juices that are watered down with other sugary juices.”
Chalnessa Aemes, Soloist, Pacific Northwest Ballet, Seattle, Washington
(Note from Tim Vincent: Chalnessa tasted our juice in Portland, and requested that Metropolitan Markets carry it, and the rest is history. Thank you, Chalnessa!)
“We are crazy for Vincent Family Cranberry Juice at the Beaverton Farmers Market. Since the first day Tim started selling his juices, they’ve been a must-buy for our customers. I’ve never tasted a better cranberry juice – ever!”
Ginger Rapport, market master, Beaverton Farmers Market, Beaverton, Oregon
