The Original Restaurant Presents ‘Pig and Pinot’, a Farm‐to‐Table Wine and Dine Event

August 17, 2010

Portland, OR (August 9th, 2010) — The Original Dinerant announces “Pig and Pinot”, a dinner featuring local food and wine on Tuesday, August 24th at The Original Dinerant in downtown Portland. “Pig and Pinot” highlights the use of a blue ribbon-winning pig bought by the The Original’s executive chef recently at the Washington County Fair’s Prime Livestock Auction benefitting the Hillsboro FFA and 4-H clubs, local vegetables and local wines.
“The ‘Farm-to-Table’ factor is the true taste of this dinner”, says Executive Chef B.J. Smith of The Original Dinerant, “because using local ingredients loses the need for preservatives and other flavor-killing treatments of the foods.” Mr. Bacon will be freshly slaughtered and prepared, packed full of nutrients and flavor. And the vegetables for the meal will be local as well, from The Side Yard, a nearby small-scale urban farm owned by The Original’s own cook, Stacey Givens. “By using locally grown vegetables,” continues Smith, “we not only enjoy the abundant flavors of freshness from the just-picked foods, but also enjoy knowing that we’re making a smaller eco-footprint with the meal, too.” And pairing local pinots with all six courses is “the only choice”, says The Original’s Food and Beverage Director Meaghan Goedde, “because we live in Portland, smack-center of the greatest Pinot making region of the world!”

The Original Dinerant’s Smith and Goedde chose to purchase the pig for this dinner from the Washington County Fair’s Prime Livestock Auction to support the local FFA (Future Farmers of America) and 4-H clubs. “We think it is awesome what these clubs teach kids about agriculture,” says Goedde, “and they are are the providers of tomorrows’ ‘locavore’ ingredients right here in our own backyards – and we want to support their education process.”

Seating is limited, please reserve your settings early. Tickets are $75 ($55 without wine).
