Get a Taste of Life as Pie at the Buckman Portland Farmers Market
August 2, 2010
“Pietopia 2010” winners to be announced at the Buckman Market on Thursday, August 5
WHAT
Tasting award-winning pies will be as easy as…well, pie, on Thursday, August 5, at the Buckman Portland Farmers Market, when the winners of the Pietopia 2010 contest will be presented, along with a general pie sampling extravaganza.
Pietopia asked, “What Does Your Life Taste Like in a Pie?” Entrants were challenged to bake up a delicious answer their life’s questions, such as “What does it taste like to be unemployed, starting a new job, just married, divorced, a new homeowner or desperately searching for housing? What kind of pie would describe the way you are feeling right now? Could you imagine your thoughts, concerns or joys transformed into the All-American Pie?” Pies were judged by two panels, one comprised of food writers, the second of bakers.
This year’s winners are:
- Margit Beerli; Rinky Dink Pie (coconut custard with a dark chocolate glaze)
- Hannah Kane; Galaxy Pie (gluten-free ginger snap crust with a frozen whipped cream center and chocolate and caramel swirled on top)
- Caroline Ford; Messy, Gooey, Banana Caramel Fudge Brownie Pie
In addition to the slices of the three winning recipes, the sampling table will feature pies donated by Packer Farms and Grand Central Bakery. There will also be raffle for three Pietopia t-shirts and five pie crust kits, each containing a fresh bag of Stone-Buhr flour, coupons from Organic Valley for butter and Grand Central Bakery’s Perfect Pie Crust recipe. Market shoppers can stop by the Pietopia tent for a free ticket, and the winners will be drawn at 5:30 PM.
Pietopia 2010 is sponsored by Stone-Buhr Flour, Grand Central Bakery and Organic Valley. For more information, go to www.eatingisart.com/pietopia.
