Gathering Together Farm and Evesham Wood Winery: Saturday, September 18, 8-5pm
August 30, 2010
Cost for bus, farm tour, lunch, and wine tasting: $39. Seating is limited. Reserve yours now!
We’ll meet at Food Front NW at 7:45 am for coffee and tea and board the bus to leave promptly at 8am. We’ll be traveling with Ecoshuttle, a Portland based environmentally friendly transportation company. In true ‘sustainable’ fashion we’ll be traveling in a biodiesel powered school bus with a local organic agriculture expert on-board to answer questions and provide interesting insight into the local farm movement.
We’ll travel south through the valley to arrive at our first stop, Gathering Together Farm. There we’ll be met by our host,
John Eveland farmer and owner since 1987. With John as our guide, we’ll experience the sights, tastes, and smells that make organic growing so unique and robust. At the peak of the season, we’ll have the opportunity to see many of the 100s of different varieties they grow and adventure through their fields, hugging the Mary’s River.
After the tour we’ll have a sumptuous lunch on the farm at their very own cafe, The Garden Room. Prepared by their head chef JC Mersmann, a Michelin-recognized chef who previously worked at Chez Panisse, we’ll feast on the abundance of the farm, experiencing farm-to-fork in the most literal sense.
After lunch we’ll hope back on the bus and head north to visit Evesham Wood Vineyard. Nestled on a lower terrace of the Eola-Amity Hills’ eastern slope in Oregon’s Willamette Valley, their east facing 13 acre estate vineyard, Le Puits Sec, was planted in 1986. We’ll have the opportunity to tour their organically certified vineyard and learn more about the benefits of non-irrigated vines. Afterwards we’ll relax in the winery, tasting a sampling of wines, and appreciating their ‘small is beautiful’ philosophy that results in outstanding flavors and supreme quality.
Hoping back onto the bus at 4pm, we’ll start the journey back to town arriving back at Food Front at 5pm.
