Oregon Beer Odyssey: Meat Cheese Beer offered this week with the Hop and Vine
July 20, 2010
Portland, OR, July 20, 2010: Local beer educators Oregon Beer Odyssey and beer bar The Hop and Vine (1914 N Killingsworth) are teaming up this Thursday evening to offer a tasting class on pairing food and beer. The class, titled “Meat Cheese Beer” includes eight carefully selected three-way pairings of craft beer, artisan cheese, and cured meat.
This event follows on the heels of two previous beer/cheese pairing classes that Oregon Beer Odyssey (OBO) has hosted this year. In May and June, OBO hosted classes at Saraveza that featured sheep’s and goat’s milk cheeses. Popular pairings from these classes included Tomme de Chevre with Elysian’s The Wise ESB, fresh sheep’s cheese with Trumer Pilsner, Beer Valley’s Fresh Hop Black Flag Imperial Stout with Ewephoria, and Val Dieu Grand Cru with Roquefort. This week’s event will feature cow’s milk cheeses such as Mahon riserva, Shropshire, French Langres, and Taleggio.
Meat Cheese Beer will be offered at the Hop and Vine this Thursday, July 22, from 7 to 9 PM. Ben Edmunds and the Oregon Beer Odyssey staff will lead the tasting, and participants will also have the opportunity to create pairings of their own creation. The cost is $35 per person; pre-registration is required and can be done on the Oregon Beer Odyssey website, www.oregonbeerodyssey.com, or at the Hop and Vine.
About Oregon Beer Odyssey:
Oregon Beer Odyssey was founded in 2010 by Ben Edmunds, Jason Yale, and Robert Bosworth. We are an LLC dedicated to promoting appreciation and knowledge of craft beer through formal tastings and classes. We are the first business in Portland entirely devoted to beer education.
Our classes aim to educate a broad audience about the diversity and quality of craft beer, both from the Northwest and around the world. In an intimate, small-group setting, customers can enjoy themselves, while sampling world-class beers. We value our independence. Unaffiliated with any specific brewery, we are not tied to serving any specific type of beer or promoting any single company. Our recommendations and classes feature the honest and unfiltered opinions of a highly beer-knowledgeable staff
