Dine Out June 10-12 at Select Portland Restaurants & Make a Difference for the Gulf Coast

June 9, 2010

Portland restaurants Park Kitchen, 3 Doors Down, Olympic Provisions, Lincoln and Del Inti part of nationwide effort to support the Golf Coast Oil Spill Fund

Portland, OR – (June 8, 2010) America’s chefs and restaurants unite to create Dine Out for the Gulf Coast, benefiting the Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund. From June 10-12, 2010, participating restaurants in Portland and across the country will set aside a portion of their profits to help those directly affected by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico and to support the long term restoration of the treasured coast. Portland restaurants include: Park Kitchen, Olympic Provisions, Del Inti, 3 Doors Down, and Lincoln.

“I have been working with Jimmy Galle, owner of Gulfish, for the past six months to bring gulf coast shrimp to Portland chefs and am devastated about the oil crisis and what lays ahead for the people affected on the gulf coast,” said Geoff Latham, president and founder of Nicky USA. “We need to do whatever we can to help the clean up efforts by supporting participating restaurants throughout the weekend.”

Participating restaurants with customize their own Dine Out for the Gulf Coast benefit program. Some restaurants will contribute a percentage of total sales for the day and others will donate the sales from specific menu items, while others will offer specialty cocktails with a dollar-value from sales donated to the fund. Many restaurants will highlight Gulf seafood offerings as a way to support the Gulf Coast fishing industry (commercial and charter fisherman), just declared a national fisheries disaster by Commerce Secretary Gary Locke. The New York Times, May 26, 2010.

The short-term goal of The Gulf Coast Oil Spill Fund, administered by the Greater New Orleans Foundation, is to make emergency grants to nonprofit organizations helping the victims of the oil spill.  The long-term goal of the fund is to address the long-term economic, environmental, cultural effects of the disaster, and strengthen coastal communities against future environmental catastrophes by investing in solutions.  No administrative fees will be charged to the fund:  all funds will be re-granted to the communities in need.  More information on the fund may be found at:  http://www.gnof.org/gulf-coast-oil-spill-fund/disaster-on-the-gulf-coast//.

Diners should contact participating restaurants directly for specific details. All Dine Out for the Gulf Coast special offers are subject to availability and vary by participating restaurant.
