PORTLAND, Oregon (December 29, 2009) — A traditional French holiday, the Epiphany, falls on January 6th when the three kings arrived to honor the newborn Christ child. Today, French families still gather around the table together to enjoy a special cake: la Galette des Rois, or the Kings’ Cake. More popular as a tradition for good luck in the coming year, the Galette des Rois at St. Honoré Boulangerie arrives with a lucky charm made of porcelain and a golden paper crown. The Galette comes in many different designs, but at St. Honoré the design is the traditional sunflower shape to symbolize vitality. The Galette is made with puff pastry filled with frangipane, a blend of almond and custard cream and is available by special order through the end of January. One size serves 10-12 people and is $42. To place an order, please call 503-445-4342.
