The Beaverton Farmers’ Market to End Season with a Bountiful Harvest

November 5, 2009

BEAVERTON, OR—November 5, 2009—To mark the end of a successful market season, the Beaverton Farmers’ Market’s Harvest Market on Saturday, November 21 will immerse market-goers in the sights, smells, and tastes of the holidays.

The Harvest Market is a celebration of one of the most important meals of the year. For this one special day, the market re-opens so that the community can put local, harvest-fresh foods on their Thanksgiving table. Heirloom turkey varieties will be available from Pine Mountain Ranch, and Champoeg Farm est. 1856 will offer Broad Breasted Bronze Turkeys (pre-ordering is advised)–plus pumpkins, sweet potatoes, and fresh fall vegetables. Holiday recipes and food samples from market vendors will be featured in the Tasting Tent.

Additionally, two local cookbook authors will demonstrate and serve tastes of their favorite autumn recipes. At 10:00am, Ivy Manning will prepare borscht–both veggie and meaty–from her new book, The Adaptable Feast: Satisfying Meals for the Vegetarians, Vegans, and Omnivores at Your Table (Sasquatch Books; October 20, 2009). At noon, seafood expert and chef, Gary Puetz, will share a recipe from his book, Cooking with the Seafood Steward (Arnica; October 1, 2008). Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Local radio personality and celebrity gardening expert Mike Darcy will host his NewsRadio 750 KXL show, In the Garden, live from the Harvest Market. Darcy will chat with vendors and answer market-goers’ questions live on-air from 8am to noon.

Festivities abound with live music performed by Speedlimit and the Violations, holiday wreaths, garlands, and table decorations, plus great holiday gifts and stocking stuffers will be sold. Join in the fun, and bid adieu for the season to the largest market in Oregon as we wrap up a bountiful year at the Beaverton Farmers’ Market!

We’ll see you at the market!
