MAD MEN
Viewing Assistant!
CARPANO Antica Formula $32.50 on sale thru Sunday!
Most of us addicted to the fantastic television show Mad Men were thrilled when the 3rd Season premiered last Sunday. Then it dawned on me we really should be mixing up a cocktail to sit and watch this show about the booze hounds who roamed the halls of Ad Agencies in the 60′s.
So I asked mix-master Pat to come up with a good companion drink. Behold, he chose a Negroni. But not just any Negroni, this one is made with Carpano’s Antica Formula vermouth. For those not up on their mixers, Antonio Carpano distilled the world’s first vermouth ‘Carpano’ in Turin in 1786! This bottle is made from that same recipe! Technically Carpano Antica Vermouth is a sweet Rosso vermouth but the color is more caramel-brown and it only begins sweet. The finish is more bitter with flavors of licorice, candied orange peel, eucalyptus, and spice on the palate.
You can enjoy it neat, or over ice, and it is delightful both ways. Or a more motivated cocktail maker my want to mix up a batch of Negroni and sit down to watch Sunday’s next episode of Mad Men:
1 part Gin
1 part vermouth
1 part bitters or campari
stir in a glass over ice and garnish with an orange peel.

2008 ARNOT ROBERTS Chardonnay (Reg. $36/bottle)
cork club $30/bottle · nonclub price $33/bottle
Many of you have heard me rant and rave about the stunning Chardonnay I had on a visit to Arnot Roberts last year. For me, it was a transcending experience in wine, tasting something that reminded me completely of French Chablis, yet made in a barn in the middle of nowhere near the Sonoma Coast. Learn more…
