This summer weather feels great, doesn’t it?  With the sun and heat returning, what better time to checkout some new Rosé arrivals and some great values on sparkling wines for summer celebrating.

As the official sponsor of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s 5th Annual Rose City Wine Opener, we are holding a pre-party fundraiser tonight, Wednesday @ NW Lovejoy.  Join us from 5pm-7:30pm for a Rosé Tasting and 5% of the evening’s sales will go to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Oregon chapter.

On Friday @ Alberta it’s our annual Budget Sparkling Wine Tasting from 5pm – 7:30pm.  Come taste different bubblies that will suit your afterwork and weekend mood, from Cava to Prosecco to Crémant and beyond!

CYSTIC FIBROSIS FOUNDATION BENEFIT TASTING

As the official sponsor of the Wall of Wine for Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of Oregon’s 2009 Rose City Wine Opener on August 20th, we’re doing what we can to help raise funds and gather wines for a successful event.  Here’s three ways for you to help, too, and perhaps enjoy some terrific rosé at the same time:

1) Rose City Wine Opener Pre-party TONIGHT July 15 at the NW Lovejoy from 5pm to 7:30pm.  We have a great lineup of 5 Rosé wines to taste for $10, including the 2008 MUGA Rioja Rosado and the 2008 SOTER North Valley Pinot Noir Rosé. This is also a great chance to buy early bird tickets to the August fundraiser at special pricing.  On top of all of that, cork will donate 5% of the evening’s sales to CFF.  See you tonight!

3) Buy a bottle to contribute to the wall: If you’re too busy to get out and shop, or don’t need a 6-pack of rosé, you can still support the event by buying a bottle to be part of the Wall of Wine.  Just decide your donation level of $20, $30, $40 or $50 and we will choose the wine for you. Please call the NW Lovejoy location at 503.501.5028 with a credit card, or email your order request to info@corkwineshop.com with a daytime contact number, and we’ll take it from there. Your purchase will go directly to the Wall of Wine!  An extra $1 will be donated when you call or email your order TODAY, July 15.

FRIDAY NIGHT FLIGHT: Summer Sparklers on a Budget
Friday, July 17 @ NE Alberta  ·  5PM – 7:30PM · $10 tasting fee

This week’s Friday Night Flight features Sparkling Wine that fits the Budget.  All of these are in the $10-20 range and represent bubbly from Spain, Italy and France.  Come check out these great values and kick off the weekend with a festive glass of sparkling wine.  Tasting runs from 5pm – 7:30pm. After you’re done, you can saunter over to the new eatery scheduled to open on the street this week – BRANCH replaces the now closed Alberta Street Oyster Bar.  We welcome back Bartender extraordinaire Andrew Finkelman and crew who are launching this new bar concept with a full menu and a wide range of drink choices.  Extra incentive to get down to Alberta this Friday night!  (Note – they are planning a soft opening and anything could delay it, so calibrate your hopes accordingly.)

Clouet 1911Since we’re on the subject of sparkling wine, a few seats remain to join André Clouet, the producer of  some of our favorite Champagne, for dinner on July 23rd.  I’ll be cooking a 4 course meal inlcuding all of his bottlings: Silver Label Bouzy Brut, Brut Rosé, the 2002 Vintage Brut and the special 1911 Cuvee pictured here.

The menu is shaping up to include a Walla Walla onion tart, pan-seared chicken with olives and dijon cream and a few other tasty courses I’m still contemplating. This evening is $100/person which includes food, wine and gratuity.  For reservations, please call the NE Alberta shop at 503.281.2675.  Your credit card will be required to confirm the reservation.

We’ve just learned that Owen Roe will release their 2008 Abbot’s Table just in time for our tasting of their new line of Corvidae Wines next week.  So now you have twice the incentive to put this tasting on your calendar!  Drop in tasting, no reservations needed.

FRIDAY NIGHT FLIGHT: The Txakoli Invasion
Friday, July 31 @ NE Alberta  ·  5PM – 7:30PM · $12 tasting fee

Our annual celebration of the lightly frizzante and always refreshing Txakolina (cha · ko · leena) wines from Spain’s Basque region will be a big draw.  Plan to come early so you don’t miss out on wines from Ameztoi, Txarmant, Uriondo, Txomin Etxonis and two stunning new arrivals to the marketplace.  It all happens on the last day of the month!
