This is one of those weeks when we really love working at cork.  Heck, it’s 62 degrees in here all the time, so while everyone sweats riding by on their bike or in their sleek convertible, we’re inside chillin’.  But we miss you, so come visit.

Here’s a great reason to do just that – this Friday @ NW Lovejoy, Heather Clark from OWEN ROE will be on hand pouring a whole lineup of the new Corvidae wines, along with some of the just-released 2008 Abbot’s Table.  The fun starts at 5pm, and it should be roasting hot by then, so come cool down, eat some snacks and taste some delicious vino.  Did we mention they’re all under $14!

Next Tuesday, there is a delicious dinner simmering at Fratelli Ristorante in the Pearl.  I’ll be there to wine and dine with the folks from Antinori who will be showcasing the Tormaresca wines from their estate in Puglia.  Join me?  Details follow.

Stay cool, everyone, and drink lots of Txakoli.  Or rosé.

FRIDAY NIGHT FLIGHT

OWEN ROE Corvidae Tasting
Friday, July 24 @
NW Lovejoy
5pm to 7:30pm · $10 tasting fee

Just when you think they can’t get any better, Owen Roe surprises us.  This past Spring, they released a new line of wines under the CORVIDAE label at even better values than their Sharecropper’s series.  Made mostly from grapes grown in Washington, and processed at their Washington facility, Owen Roe has hit another home run.  Not only are the labels adorable, but the wines are delicious.  And they range in price from about $9 to $14.  So what are you waiting for?  Come taste them all this Friday.  And as an added bonus, we’ll have the 2008 Abbot’s Table open to taste as well.

The fun begins at 5pm and goes until 7:30pm or the bottles run dry.  On deck are the following wines: Mirth Chardonnay, Crowe White Blend, Rook, Lenore Syrah & The Keeper Cab Franc.

TORMARESCA DINNER @ FRATELLI

Fratelli
PUGLIAN DINNER WITH TORMARESCA
Tuesday, July 28th · 6pm
@ Fratelli Ristorante · 1230 NW Hoyt
$45/person plus gratuity

This past April, I had a chance to make a quick visit to some vineyards in Puglia and hang out in the wonderful baroque town of Lecce.  Along with me on the trip was Shannon, the sommelier from Fratelli Ristorante, and the two of us made a pact to do some events together when we returned.  Well, the perfect opportunity has just arrived and knowing the fine cuisine that Paul always puts out from the kitchen, this should be a delicious evening.

cork will have a table at the event, so please join me and my wife Sarah next Tuesday by calling Fratelli and making a reservation and specifying you are part of the cork party.  I hope you can join us.  I leave the creative prose in Shannon’s capable hands, here’s her details for the evening:

“Steps from the Adriatic sea, ancient towers guard the red clay and limestone of the Masseria Maime at the heart of the Salento peninsula.  A hundred miles to the north, the Bocca di Lupo calls back, low and long and full throated.  Twenty-six generations of the Antinori family have passed on the legacy that Marchese Piero Antinori brings to the riches and history of Puglia.”  Join Ristorante Fratelli on Tuesday July 28th for a call of the wild with the passionate wines of Tormaresca paired with Puglian inspired dishes.  Chairs at 6pm with repast at 6:30.  Please call the restaurant for reservations at 503.241.8800.

The evening’s pairings will include the following…

2007 Chardonnay w/pan seared Albacore, mixed greens, capers & herb vinaigrette
2003 Torcicoda Primitivo with fava puree, chicory and Pecorino Margherita
2007 Neprica with house made gnocchetti, braised rabbit, roast summer squash
2003 Masseria Maime Negroamaro with a traditional eggplant caponata
2003 Bocca di Lupo Aglianico standing with wood fire oven roasted lamb, extra virgin olive oil poached potatoes, and a Bocca di Lupo glace’, finished with truffle salt and Pianogrillio extra virgin olive oil

Mamma mia, doesn’t that menu make you hungry?  Call for reservations now at 503.241.8800.  I hope to see you there!
