Well, we couldn’t have planned our Txakoli tasting for a better week.  What better to drink when it is triple digits than an ice cold, lightly effervescent, low alcohol, dry and crisp white like the classic wine from the Basque country.  The fun begins early this week to bring you all inside and out of the heat.  4pm-8pm @ NE Alberta!

Shinjo TerrafirmaIt’s Last Thursday again.  I’m not sure how many folks will be walking the street in the 100 degree heat, but if you are, pop your head into cork to check out really cool new artwork from Shelly Shinjo.  We’ll be pouring a few whites by the glass and selling 12oz beers for folks who want to take advantage of our blasting AC for a little while.  Shelly will join us in August for an artist reception, but you can come view her new work now!

Next Wednesday, the cooks, cork & co-conspirators dinner is back at Daily Cafe, with featured artist Shannon Lewis displaying new works, a lovely menu planned and a focus on Austrian wines paired with the dinner.  Come join us if you are free.

Keep hydrated.  We’re here when you need a cool place to hang out.

FRIDAY NIGHT FLIGHT

Txakoli Poured Up HighBASQUE Txakolina Tasting!
Friday, July 31 @
NE ALBERTA
4pm to 8pm · $10 tasting fee

If you’ve ever ventured to Spain and seen the baristas pouring Txakolina from 4 feet in the air and mostly hitting the glass, then you have experienced the great refreshing white wine of the Basque region.  The pouring method allows for aeration and lets the slight carbonation in the bottle come out in the glass.  Of course, most of the time 50% of the wine ends up on the counter.  We’ll pull out our Txakoli (pronounced Cha·ko·lee) pourer spouts and try to keep it all off the cork bar this Friday starting at 4pm.  We’ve ordered in a few new bottlings this year and will have a great lineup of 5 terrific wines.  They come from 2 different appellations – Getariako and Bizkaiko.  Come check them out and cool down on Friday, as this wine is usually in the 9%-11% alcohol range and the perfect refreshing way to kick off another hot weekend.  Expect new arrivals from Urki, Xarmant, Ameztoi, Gurratxaga and Txomin Etxonis to be poured.

The fun begins at 4pm and goes until 8pm or the bottles run dry.  We’ll provide some Jamon and marcona almonds.  Always one of our more festive tastings of the year. Don’t miss it!

cooks, cork & co-conspirators DINNER @ DAILY CAFE

AUSTRIAN WINE DINNER @ Daily Cafe in the Pearl
Wednesday, August 5 · 6:30pm
@ Daily Cafe in the Pearl · 902 NW 13th (at Kearney)
$60/person for food and wine, not including gratuity

Next Wednesday is the monthly dinner at the Daily Cafe in the Pearl, where cork, Caplan Art Designs and a local artist pair up to create an appetizing night out.  This is turning out to be a great series of meals, with vivid conversations matched to stunning artwork and lively dishes.  Oh, and the wine is pretty darn good too!

The menu is below.  All wines will be available for retail sale at special prices at the dinner, so you can try them first and then order for home whatever you like the most.  We’re especially excited about the food and wine lineup this month, so if you haven’t tried the Daily yet for dinner, this is an excellent time to join us.  Both Sarah Ann from the Lovejoy shop and myself will be present to answer wine questions throughout the meal.

For reservations, please call
