| | | Greetings! | Festival Season is upon us here at Bacon and Eggs Press. That means our “sales department,” aka the Stumptown Scribes Booth, is appearing at neighborhood fairs all over town. But the biggest news is the arrival of a new title, Best in Tent Camping: Oregon. And what better to do than get out there, pitch your tent, and jump in a lake when it’s 8 million degrees in crowded old Portland? |
| Looking for a Quiet Place to Pitch Your Tent? | A car camper, with a tent, looking for a place with no “big RVs, loud stereos, or concrete blocks.” Does that sound like you and your family? Well, this is the book for you: the updated second edition of Best in Tent Camping: Oregon, from Menasha Ridge Press, the same folks who brought you my two hiking guidebooks. A woman named Jeanne Louise Pyle wrote the first edition years ago, and I just updated it. It’s not even at stores yet, but I know Powells placed a big pre-order. Meanwhile, the only place to get it is from Stumptown Scribes, the sales department of my Vast Breakfast Empire. Speaking of which ….. |

| News from the Breakfast Empire | I still get out to breakfast here and there, so I do have some news and reviews to share.First, and saddest, is the demise of Roux, on North Killingsworth. The Breakfast Crew had a fine and fun brunch there, and the place will be missed. Also gone is Cafe 401, which never even got a chance to be in the book. Plus, I never talked myself into the lamb (testicle) fries. In other, happier news, there’s a new patio at Podnah’s Pit BBQ, the Crew had a great time at Lucca, the Brunch Box got some video love online (and started a semi-feud between me and a video-host goofball), and somebody finally combined two of the world’s great foods, the donut and the hamburger. And finally, I scratched out a couple of reviews since the last newsletter. I thought Meat Cheese Bread was fine for what it was — a sandwich place — and I think Hash in Sellwood just lacks a little zing. |
