Nostrana Launches ‘La Cucina Povera’ Menu
Chef & Owner Cathy Whims Creates New Value-Driven Menu That Speaks To Humble Ingredients

Portland, OR (June 17, 2009)
-  This week marks the launch of Nostrana’s ‘La Cucina Povera,’ a new three item, $12 menu built from humble ingredients in the traditional Italian ‘peasant cooking’ style.

“La Cucina Povera, which literally means ‘cooking of the poor,’ uses ingredients that are typically overlooked for their simplicity,” says 2009 James Beard Award nominee and Executive Chef Cathy Whims.  “This menu celebrates the importance of working with what you’ve got,” adds Whims.

In the ‘Cucina Povera’ spirit, Whims assembled a modest team of ingredients to form three dishes at the value-driven price of $5 each, or three for $12. The rotating menu will include dishes like:

  • Sicilian Farmer’s bruschetta with Keith’s ricotta, pecorino, oven candied tomatoes and wild greens
  • Farro tubetti with broccoli raab, hot chilies and anchovies
  • Zuppa Arcidossana with sausage, bread and spinach

Nostrana is offering its ‘La Cucina Povera’ menu during lunch, dinner and happy hour until the pantry is empty… Nostrana is open seven days a week and is located at 1401 SE Morrison, Portland 97214.  For more information call 503.234.2427, or visit Nostrana online at www.nostrana.com.
