“Viva la tavola di San Giuse!”
Nostrana Honors San Giuseppe with a Bread Altar and Traditional Feast
Portland, OR (March 18, 2009) - Nostrana gives thanks to San Giuseppe – the official saint of family and pastry cooks – by featuring a traditional light, fresh fish and a fava bean-centric menu rounded out by hand-made, celebratory breads and Sicilian pastries through April 1st.
As the legend goes, a terrible drought struck Sicily in the Middle Ages and all the town’s children prayed to San Giuseppe (St. Joseph) in the hopes that he would save them. At midnight on March 19th, the children’s prayers were answered and rain replenished the dry Sicilian fields, making them green once again. San Giuseppe’s intercession has long been celebrated across Italy with a full table and bounty of fresh food for all.
Nostrana’s Feast San Giuseppe Style runs from March 14th – April 1st and offers a rotating menu featuring a variety of traditional dishes along with a bread altar in the restaurant that pays tribute to one of Italy’s most famous legends. Let the feast begin, Sicilian style!
